Resume Fixer Upper: Attractive Adjectives & Action Verbs

Resume Fixer Upper: Attractive Adjectives & Action Verbs

Earlier this year, I applied for nearly 40 internships to gain experience in my field, Communications. I submitted application after application with hopes that I would land the perfect start to a career I’d love.

After receiving several no’s, I knew that I needed to spruce up my resume in order to have any chance at getting a yes! After all, a resume is a “living” document, meaning it should be updated frequently and adjusted to fit each job individually. The details of a resume should attract and compliment a specific job’s description and function in order to be competitive. Adjectives and actions verbs are useful in helping achieve just that.

I searched the web for lists of adjectives and action verbs that stand out on a resume, which gave me just the information I needed to improve mine.

A few of my favorite sites that list resume adjectives and action verbs are:

1.) The Muse

2.) Work It Daily

3.) Live Career

Many companies have gone completely electronic with their application process and you want to make sure that your resume stands outs during the electronic filtering process. Adding adjectives and action verbs that complement your skills is one way to spruce up your resume and catch the attention of a potential employer!

By doing this, I landed not one, but two internships this summer with a few offers that I turned down.

I look forward to blogging more about resumes, so be sure to comment below and let me know what you’d like to know!
